“There’s Still Hope in a Tattered Photograph”
Roland Llarena
Oil on Canvas
36 inches x 24 inches
2026
Using a warm, earthy palette, Roland Llarena grounds the viewer in a sense of home, while the white gestural marks act as a “veil” of time. “There’s Still Hope in a Tattered Photograph” is an exploration of how we hold onto the light even when the edges of our history start to fray.
Roland Llarena is a painter and sculptor based in Molo, Iloilo City. He studied architecture, which was evident in his earlier works. He was awarded a special citation during the 2018 Metrobank Art and Design Excellence Award. He also participated in the Linangan Art Residency in 2021. Llarena has had several exhibitions in Iloilo and Manila.
“There’s Still Hope in a Tattered Photograph” is currently on view as part of the exhibition “Memory is A River”.
