Just like his other paintings in this series, the composition of “Mujer II” is centered on a young woman in profile, dressed in a stylized Baro’t Saya with voluminous, translucent butterfly sleeves. She carries a basket of blooms, a classic nod to the Amorsolo-esque “Dalagang Bukid” (country maiden) trope, yet the execution feels decidedly current.
Kristoffer Brasileño balances a rigorous studio practice with his role as a faculty member at Central Philippine University. By merging traditional painting with digital tools, he creates evocative, realistic imagery that examines the evolution of cultural identity. Brasileño’s global perspective is informed by multiple international residencies in South Korea, Vietnam and Thailand.
