In Yanni Ysabel’s “Si Nanay Y Asinan”, the artist has chosen a unique format, using two isosceles triangles to represent a divided yet interconnected story. On one side, a modern building, a prominent landmark of the new commercial business district, rises towards the sky. Its sharp lines and geometric form are a stark contrast to the other triangle. On the other is a mother and her child. The juxtaposition of the two panels prompts the viewers to ponder on the effects of progress to families in the area.
Yanni Ysabel is an artist and architecture student whose art depicts commentary on social issues and the youth culture. She studied in a private high school situated in San Rafael.
𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐰 is an exhibition tracing the participating artists’ memories of the evolution of Iloilo’s new commercial business district (San Rafael-Tabucan area) as a testament to the ever-evolving nature of land use, its effect on people, and eventually the history of a place.
The exhibition hopes to combine elements of collective memory and materiality through artworks that bridge the past and present, showcasing the transformation of the place while honoring its roots.
